Santa Clarita Valley History In Pictures

Friendly Valley, 1970
Newhall, California

Mass-market souvenir postcard, "Greetings From Friendly Valley," postally used in 1970. Friendly Valley was built in the mid-late 1960s as a retirement community. View is looking northwest toward Canyon Country. Neighborhood shopping center along Friendly Valley Parkway features prominently in the foreground. Photo is shot from the site of the later development of Scenic Hills, built in 1984.

Caption on back:

FRIENDLY VALLEY
Newhall, California
View taken from Highway 14. North Oaks may be seen in the distance.

It's likely North Oaks is mentioned because Friendly Valley and North Oaks were built by the same developer — Signature Homes and Pacific Coast Properties.

Color photo by David Rubinoff; Published and distributed by Columbia Wholesale Supply, 11401 Chandler, North Hollywood, Calif. 79042.

Mailed (sender unknown) to Mrs. Gordon Lucas, R#2, Sheridan, Ill.; postmarked at Newhall 91321, March 5, 1970 PM.

Purchased by Leon Worden on Dec. 22, 2003.
