THE LAW.
END OF THE CASTAC CANYON TRAGEDY.
Second Charge Dismissed, And Final Discharge Of W.C. Chormicle And W.A. Gardner.

As intimated in yesterday's TIMES the second information against W.C. Chormicle and W.A. Gardner, charging them with the murder of George Walton in Castac Canon, February 28th, last, was yesterday dismissed and the defendants discharged. They are now free men, with no other charges hanging over them.

The second information had been assigned to Judge Shaw's court, Department No. 6 of the Superior Court. Yesterday morning when court convened Assistant District Attorney McComas, the defendants and their counsel, J.L. Murphy, Esq., and Alex Campbell, Esq., appeared, and Mr. McComas moved the dismissal of the charge, on the ground that the evidence to be adduced is the same as in the Cook case, and as the jury acquitted in that case it would be useless to try the Walton case. Judge Shaw granted the motion, and the firearms of the defendants were turned over to them. Thus closes one of the celebrated criminal cases of the county.
