The development into adulthood of every
individual spans that inevitable period of time
known as the high school years. That period is
an admixture of calm and turmoil, of activity
and boredom, of happiness and sadness. It is
the time when youth lives to its fullest while
weighted down by the conspicuous burden of
life's problems . It is a time which, in retrospect,
reflects the superlatives - the truest friendships,
the most carefree times, the hardest work. It
becomes the touchstone against which successive
events are compared through conversations be-
ginning, '"When I was in high school ... "
But the high school years are much more
than the individual incidents of four years. They
are ''the foL1ndation of the ~merican way of
life," "the backbone of our society, " "the hope
of future generations." It is this that makes the
high school so vital and its youth so important.
As the sum equals the total of its parts, so
the students of William S. Hart High School are
not the least of this future. Their knowledge _
is the knowledge of the future. Their vitality is
the vitality of the future. Their inspiration will
be the inspiration of the future.
