Organizational Impact: Darleen has been an active member of the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita since 1988.
Darleen has held every leadership position including club president and Foundation founding president. She
continues to mentor and support members who are new to their leadership role. Darleen’s passion to help
others is obvious in Robotics program in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Club. The program began in 2008.
Darleen has been the driving force since then. She plans the lessons, mentors and guides the girls for 3 hours
a week. Former members of the program share that they learned patience, and persistence in science and engi-
neering. Last year Darleen was named Zontian of the Year.
Biography: Darleen has been volunteering for our community for over 43 years, in support and leadership
roles, in addition to establishing endowments for Zonta, College of the Canyons, and the Boys & Girls Club. In
1976, a good friend convinced Darleen to move to Valencia. That same friend convinced her to attend the Boys
& Girls Club benefit auction and she became involved for the next 21 years. In 1976 while surrounded by fe-
male volunteers at the Boys & Girls club auction, she was asked to join the Zonta Club. Within months, Darleen
was swept into helping with virtually every charitable event in town. Her zeal for charitable service she attri-
butes to her parents, who took her to several events as a young girl. Together with her husband Bill, Darleen has
instilled a sense of wonder in the sciences among the youth of Santa Clarita. Darleen was named Zontian of the
Year in 2018 for dedication to Zonta and its mission. Bill and Darleen were both named Boys & Girls Club vol-
unteers of the year in 2015. They have established significant endowments to the Boys & Girls Club for science
programs, College of the Canyons for MESA program, and the Zonta Club for a nursing scholarship program.
