Violence Against Women,’ in conjunction with the United Nations campaign. Susan was awarded Zontian of
the Year in 2016. Since arriving in Santa Clarita in 1989, Susan has been active in the community, volunteer-
ing and fundraising for many local organizations including schools, sports and non-profits. Susan was a board
member of the Canyon Country Chamber of Commerce. In 1990, Sue was the charter president of the Saugus
Optimist Group. Some of the activities Susan was involved in include Bike Safety, Drug Awareness, Youth of
the Month, Braille Olympics, Help them Hear, Youth Fishing Derby, Handicapped Awareness Week. Susan is
dedicated to the youth of our community. She has created and led many fundraisers to help young girls in need.
Her passion is making sure that young girls get an education and an opportunity to reach their potential
Biography: Susan grew up in Warwick, Rhode Island. Susan, husband Al, and son Brandon moved to Santa
Clarita in 1989. Shortly after arriving they began a business, Dell’s Lemonade, and could be found all over the
community. Susan was a board member of AAVDC, now the Domestic Violence Center, and is still involved
in Advocacy today. She has been active on many boards. One of her favorite charities is the SCV Boys and
Girls Club and has donated many hours and always helped with the Annual Auction. After the 1994 earth-
quake, Susan was hired to work for LA County Office of Education as a juvenile probation teacher. Susan
raised money so that students could get their GED’s. She is very proud of the fact that many of her students
went on to college.
