in the Santa Clarita Valley. She uses her knowledge and passion to promote cancer awareness regarding health,
wellness, and, most importantly, the free services that American Cancer Society provides in our community to
cancer patients, survivors, and their families. As a member of the Breast Cancer Awareness Committee at Hen-
ry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation, Janine has organized fundraisers, solicited auction items, and been the
Bingo caller at our annual Carole Hunt Bingo or Bust Fundraiser. Her volunteerism has not only helped us se-
cure significant funding for our Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center, but also inspired others to follow in her footsteps.
People want to work alongside Janine; her kindness and enthusiasm are contagious in the best possible way. Her
sense of humor and compassion help those who are going through hard times, and her empathy is a major com-
ponent of why she is such a successful volunteer. She donates auction goods and services for our fundraisers,
and donated all the pink hair extensions for our Pink Hair Fundraisers in the month of October.
Biography: Janine has been a resident of Santa Clarita Valley since 1972. She received her B.A. from the
University of California Santa Cruz in Sociology and Liberal Studies and continued her graduate work towards
a teaching credential at California State University Northridge. After teaching fourth grade for the Sulphur
Springs School District, she moved into the business of insurance and became an attorney negotiator for State
Farm, where she remained until her first child was born in 1993. After 18 years as a stay-at-home mom, Janine
enrolled in cosmetology school at the same time her first-born daughter enrolled in college. Janine now works
as a licensed makeup artist and hair stylist in Valencia. Janine and husband, Daniel Jones have been married for
28 years, and have three children, Camille, Baily, and Stephen. Janine has been an active volunteer for many
non-profit organizations in the Santa Clarita Valley for over 40 years, beginning at age 13 as a performer and
spotter for the Boys and Girls Club auction in 1980.
