Compton, California

[BENJAMIN FRANKLIN SUMMERS PHOTO INDEX]

The Compton constabes, 1933. Benjamin Franklin Summers (right) was a constable in Newhall beginning in 1926, then was transfered to Compton. Original caption by Summers' wife reads:

This was the Sheriff office crew that daddy started to work with in 1933. We were married in Apr. 1933. [From left] Vic Vicors, Tom Deartle [?], Frank Lyman, Art Marston [?] (he was the constable at the Compton station then), Ben Summers (daddy). They were all deputy sheriffs except Art. He was their boss. Shortly after this they were all uniform men. Had regular police officers uniforms.

Melissa Zaday writes (2022): "Yes, the fourth gentleman from the left is Art Marston, my great grandfather. Sadly, he committed suicide in the old Newhall sheriff's station in 1937."
