R
ichard Clarence Perkins, 75, died on October 31, 2005, in Newhall, Ca., following a long illness. A first-generation Little Santa Clara Valley resident, he was born at the old Newhall Hospital, formerly located on San Fernando Road and 7th Street, on December 23, 1929.
Son of the late Santa Clarita Valley historian Arthur B. Perkins, Dick Perkins is survived by his sons, Kirk L. Emmons, and daughter-in-law Jeanie Lockamy of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Scott W. Perkins and daughter-in-law Kate Perkins of Portland, Ore.; daughter Maggi Perkins of Mountain View and Newhall, Ca.,; granddaughters Heather Lockamy Emmons and Adrienne B Perkins; and grandson Ryan Lokamy Emmons.
He was a dedicated Shriner for some 40 years, giving many hours to various screening clinics for the Shrine Children's Hospitals in California and throughout the West. Other Shrine activities included membership in the Koppers (Kopper of the Year 1992) and the Jesters, both affiliated with Al Malaikah Shrine Temple, as well as Old West Shrine Club of Santa Clarita.
The family suggests donations in his memory be directed to Shrine Childrens Hospital or the Nature Conservancy.
