Taking
Language Was
A Trip
The newest student exchange program at Canyon
began last year under the direction of Mrs. Kruglak
and Mr. Hurd. Unlike the other two exchange programs
at Canyon, A.F.S. and Y.F.U. the new program was
restricted to students studying French. Chosen students
switched families with a student in France and had to
pay only their plane fare.
During the first semester, French and German classes
tried individualized instruction. Students worked on
assignments independently and earned a minimum of
five credits and up to fifteen credits, depending on their
efforts.
Team teaching, along with two seperate ability
groups, made it possible to have larger Spanish classes
than ever before. Individualized instruction was an
integral part of the Spanish program, though class
activities were also emphasized.
Students in all of the language classes found that
extra curricular activities, in addition to regular class
activities, made learning alot more fun. Some German
and French students cooked food for the International
Banquet..l which was sponsored by the International
crub. ::,ome of Mrs. Kruglak's French students were
taken to Robert's, a French restaurant.
