To accomplish great things we must not only act, Chancellor’s Message

but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.

 ANATOLE FRANCE

Wow – that was fast! It’s hard to believe five years have passed

since we opened the Canyon Country Campus. It seems we gath-
ered just yesterday to cut the ribbon and officially welcome more

than 3,000 students to the first classes at this brand-new campus.

at occasion was the end of a process that started in 1990
when the state first predicted a need for another campus in
our service area. As our enrollment grew to meet those pro-
jections, we began the time-consuming process of preparing
documentation for state approvals, evaluating possible sites,
and eventually acquiring land. Once we bought the site

and received final approval, we built the new campus in
                              just 14 months!

e special event to open the campus was just the beginning of efforts on our part
that will continue for many more years. In my comments at the ribbon cutting
ceremony, I said education is not a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. Instead, it is a
life-long endeavor, and I noted that we would focus on bringing programs, oppor-
tunities, and partnerships to Canyon Country to help our students turn their
                              dreams into reality.

As we pause and look back at where we started, as well as ahead to the future, I
am proud to say we have done just that. We offer a wide variety of majors, courses
and student services. And, last fall we opened the new Applied Technology Edu-
cation Center. It is the first permanent building constructed at the campus, and
it’s where students will train for careers in automotive technology, plumbing, and
                              alternative energies.

                                                                                 Continued on next page
