And
They're Off
Swimmers up! . . . Take your
marks! . . . Bang! And they're
off! Such was the scenario for
many a Hart swimmer during
the 1984 season.
For the Junior Varsity Swim
T earns, the season was success-
ful. The JV Boy's Swim Team
was named Foothill League Co-
champs, with only one loss to
its name- to Burbank. But the
young Indians came back at
League Finals to defeat Bur-
bank, and tie for the Cham-
pionship. The Girl's JV Team
had a similar season, losing only
once to San Gabriel, then rising
to the occasion al Finals:
The Varsity Teams, however,
had a superlative season. Both
the Aquamen and Spidergirls
were undefeated in League
meets, and qualified a record
amount of swimmers for 3-A
CIF.
The Diving Team, though not
allowed to compete in League
meets due to a Foothill League
Constitutional rule, had a dy-
namic season in invitationals.
Increasing in members from
four to nine, the diving team
also qualifed a record three
divers for CIF-Willie Padilla,
Mike Curran, and Jeff Stabile.
The team achieved its highest
placing to date at the 3-A CIF
finals: boys' fifth, and girls' fif-
teenth. With only three gradu-
ating seniors, the team looked
strong for 1985. Individual stan-
douts were Jeff Stabile, second
place diving; Thane Blinman,
fifth place 100 yd. breast stroke;
and Donna Kroeger, top twelve
in both the 200 and 500 frees-
tyle. All of the relay teams
made finals and placed well.
