202 REPORT OF STATE MINERALOGIST.

high and cross-bedding planes, on which the stone splits, are not nearly
as prominent as on the east. Here it has been worked back for 40 feet.
On the west end of the same hill, perhaps 500 feet west of the red
beds, is a face of beautiful white sandstone about 100 feet long by 10
feet high, covered by six to 10 feet of gravel. It is softer than the red
stone and shows some white mica. There is no equipment at the quarry.
