FRIDAY NIGHT ON NBC -TV. 10 PM
Arrival of a coroner's wagon announced the filming of the NBC
series Quincy at SHS October 5. Why Saugus? According to Mr.
Fred Jackman, director, it was basically a question of money.
The costs of building a high school set on the Universal lot 2
were tremendous. Instead, they decided to find an ideal high
school to film. "We needed a clean, sharp, bright campus to
set the scene." commented Mr. Jackman. "Saugus High appealed
to us greatly, so we chose it as the ideal campus."
The crew of Quincy was happy to tell the students about the
series and the sophisticated methods used in filming. Series
star Jack Klugman (2), swamped by students, spent time between
takes signing autographs (3), as did Leslie Ackerman, co-star
for the episode. Many students observed the filming during
lunch periods and after school (1 ).
