Souvenir postcard, divided back, unused, showing the Ranch House Inn Motor Hotel and Restaurant in Valencia, 1970s. Published by Columbia Wholesale Supply of North Hollywood.
Back reads:
RANCH HOUSE INN
Valencia, California
Located on Interstate 5 directly across from Magic Mountain at the Saugus Ave. [sic] exit. 125 Room Inn with Color TV — Heated Pool, near
36 Hole Golf Course [sic: 18 holes] — Banquet facilities up to 200.
The Newhall Land and Farming Company built and opened the Ranch House Coffee Shop and Restaurant in 1965 at what was then the Saugus off-ramp from the Golden State Freeway
(later called Magic Mountain Parkway), next to the new Valencia
Golf Club ("Big V" golf course, later called Valencia Country Club).
The 122-room Ranch House Inn Motor Hotel followed in the summer of 1970 under the supervision of
Thomas L. Sutton and Terry E. Van Gorder. "The most modern methods were used in
its construction, including the tilting-up of its walls by giant crane,"
according to a company publication. Upon completion, it became the preferred banquet facility for Newhall-Saugus-Valencia (SCV) Chamber of Commerce functions;
it was the only real banquet facility in town other than the fraternal lodges in Mint Canyon.
Both the restaurant and the motel were initially operated by the Fred Harvey Company of "Harvey House" fame.
As of 2019, both are gone to make way for two new hotels — a
182-room, 75-foot-tall Residence Inn/Springhill Suites hotel, and a 108-room, 65-foot-tall Holiday Inn Express hotel.
