Sadly, there is no description on the back of this photograph to explain what we're looking at other than "Newhall, July 4, [19]34."

Could it have something to do with prohibition, which was repealed just seven months earlier on Dec. 5, 1933? If so, is it pro or con? And what's with the "hillbilly" look?
