Jack Russell Spurney
General Manager, Honda Performance Development


On Sunday, January 29, 2017, Jack Russell Spurney, 64, left this world.

Jack was born in San Mateo, CA and grew up in Allison Park, PA. He attended Tampa University in Tampa, FL and finished his education at George Williams College of Aurora University in Chicago, IL, obtaining a BS in Psychology.

He married his high school sweetheart, Diane Hizer, on August 28, 1976. They had two daughters.

His exciting career began in 1978, with Honda Motors spanning 36 years. He was a Manager of American Honda Motor, Co., Inc. in Torrance, CA., Senior Manager of Honda Research and Development Americas, Inc., in Marysville, Ohio and General Manager of Honda Performance Development in Valencia, CA.

During his career, Jack also studied Japanese at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, which he used while working in Tochigi, Japan.

He had a great love and respect for the outdoors and he ran many marathons in the state of California. He had an appreciation for the sea and would often vacation in Maui and Catalina Island. He had a special talent in writing and enjoyed playing his guitar.

He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Diane, daughters Megan Schmidt (Jay) and Lauren Schwenker (Daniel), brothers Steve and Paul Spurney (Darlene), niece Colleen Brletich (Derek), nephew Sean Spurney and his mother Portia Spurney.

A celebration of Jack's life will be on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Wayfarers Chapel, 5755 Palos Verdes Dr. South, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in memory of Jack R. Spurney to Eagle Rock School in Estes Park, Colo. Donations to the Graduation Higher Education Fund benefit at-risk youth who've graduated from Eagle Rock School. Checks to GHED fund, Eagle Rock School 2750 Notaiah Rd., Estes Park, CO 85017.
