JoAnne Louise Hider passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, October 22, 2014, in Lancaster, California, at the age of 75.

Born March 25, 1939, to Marvin and Dorothy Knudsen in Los Angeles, California, JoAnne spent the majority of her life living in Canyon Country, California, before relocating to the Antelope Valley to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

JoAnne met Gerald Wilford Hider Jr. in 1957 and they were married the same year after JoAnne graduated from Van Nuys High School. JoAnne and Jerry had four children: Steven, who passed in 1978, Jeffrey, Michael and Jennifer.

JoAnne was a loving wife and active mother, being honored by the Boy Scouts for her many years and contributions to the scouting program as well as the PTA at Rio Vista Elementary school where all of her children attended. Later, JoAnne partnered with her husband in their business venture, Jerry's Transmissions in Canyon Country.

In 1987 she obtained her nursing degree from College of the Canyons and worked her entire nursing career at Olive View Medical Center starting in 1988 primarily in the Obstetrics Department where she retired in 2009 as a result of illness.

JoAnne is survived by her beloved younger sister Karen and husband Danny Fox of Ithaca, New York; Her three surviving children: oldest son Jeffrey, his wife Jackie of Palmdale, Ca., and their two children, Michael and Coree; her son Michael, his wife Victoria of Lancaster, Ca., and their three children, Garrett, Kaitlyn and Caleigh; her daughter Jennifer, her husband Robert of Dallas, Texas, and their four children, Jessica, Riley, Dior and Tanner.

Viewing will take place Thursday, Nov. 6, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the chapel on the hill at Eternal Valley Memorial Park in Newhall, California. A memorial service to celebrate JoAnne’s life will take place the next day, Friday, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. with graveside services to follow immediately at Eternal Valley Memorial Park. The family would like to invite everyone who was touched by JoAnne’s kindness to attend the memorial.
