Kenneth Barnett Cunningham


Kenneth Barnett Cunningham was a loving and attentive husband, father, and grandfather. He was witty, charming, and a masterful storyteller and a friend to all he met. Ken passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014.

He was born, at home, in Masontown, PA on December 12, 1936. His father Kenneth was a horse trainer and coal miner and his mother Betty, a homemaker and later, college graduate and educator. At a young age, he was dedicated to helping his family survive through working many jobs. He graduated from Masontown High School in 1955 and married his high school sweetheart, Norita Sheppo on October 3, 1959 and remained married for 54 years until her passing last year.

Ken was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, attended college at Kent State, and graduated from The Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. In 1977 he transferred from Cincinnati, OH to the Santa Clarita Valley with Chubb and Son Insurance and continued as a dedicated employee with Chubb for over 40 years.

Ken was a loving Christian and he will be remembered as a mentor to many and having a true servant's heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norita and is survived by his son, K.C. Cunningham (Tracy) of Valencia, CA; his daughter, Kim Hardan (Brad) of Valley Center, CA; his grandchildren: Madison, Haley, Jackson, Nicholas, and Abigail; his mother, Betty Cunningham; his siblings: Sue Baio, Judy Cunningham, Byron Cunningham, and Michael Cunningham; his sister-in-law Charlene Sheppo Long (Lamont) and their sons, Joshua Long and Craig Kilian, a second son to Ken.
