Mrs Hunter' ancesters came to California fron1 Spain with the Mssion padres.
Her grandfatJ1er was Chico Lopez, once favored by the King of Spain with vast grants of land about Lake Hughes
and Lake Elizabeth. He father was William (Billy) Warren, who was elected city marshal and chief of police here
in I 860. A decade later he \Vas slain in a gun duel. with Joe Dye as the climax of a bitter political foed which
rocked the Southland.

She was born November 8, 1865 in the family home vvhich stood on the present site of the Hall of Records.

MISSION BUILDER

The pioneer's mother was Juanita Lopez, whose grandfather was superintendent of the construction of the San
Gabriel Mission and his grave is located there ....
