Something different happened
with the girl's tennis team this
year. Instead of battling with in-
tense team competition, this
years girls' tennis team, headed
by Carol Myerscough and Kim
Barnett, became a closely-knit
group. Being friendly helped
the teams' morale tremendous-
ly. Bus rides were now some-
thing to look forward to; telling
jokes passed the time enjoy-
ably. Practice for two hours
everyday after school was actu-
ally fun this year; switching
rackets with other team mem-
bers behind coach Steve Loves'
back seemed hilarious, until he
found out.

league prelims at East Los An-
geles college becoming the
number two singles player in
the entire Foothill League and
earning a trip to the C.I.F. indi-
vidual tournament in Arcadia
on December 3. She earned
her recognition, though, on
December 6 at Cal Islands, leav-
ing with the most valuable and
most dedicated awards. The
most improved award went to
Lori James; most inspirational
was awarded to Kim Barnett;
and the coach's award was giv-
en to Maria Westly. Further-
more, six team members con-
tributed over one hundred
dollars each, helping raise over
one thousand dollars for the
club funds, double of that
raised last year.
Hard work and dedication
along with new friendships de-
scribed the 1983-84 season. Six
senior players graduated, forc-
ing the remaining junior, soph-
omores, and freshmen to prac-
tice even harder for 1985.
