And so it continues . . . Many have been influenced
by the discoveries of Euclid (300 8.C.), Newton
(1700 A.O.), and Gauss (1800 A.O.). Now, in 1986,
there are those at Hart who have been inspired by the
great minds of Rose, Lund, Cheek, et al. Headed by
Mrs. Ruth Baker, these teachers of algebra, geometry,
trigonometry, analysis, ca/cu/Us and computers at-
tempt to give their students a better appreciation for
the subject.
The Math Department added to its faculty three new
teachers: Mrs. Kathy Howell, Mrs. RoseMary Hunt, and
Ms. Karen O'Connor. This marked the largest increase
in faculty by any department at Hart for 1985-86.
However, the most significant change that occurred
this year was the addition of a new computer course.
Computer Studies, taught by Mrs. Deloria and Mrs.
Hunt, dealt with the basics of computer programming.
In /earning LOGO, students constructed intricate graph-
ic screens depicting castles, satellites, mountains, and
surf boards.
Utilizing a grant through which the Math Department
obtained additional computers and software, Mr. Louis'
generat math class had the opportunity to strengthen
their skills in the computer lab. Mrs. Levine (math
instructional aide) provided these students with in-
struction and valuable assistance in the lab, as well.
