Gardena's Eddie Gray lived-up to his nickname of "Steady Eddie" last week-
end as the veteran leadfoot captured the 35-lap "Miss California Sweepstakes" race
at Saugus, and then invaded the North to win the 40-lap PRA-sanctioned main event
at Bakersfield's quarter-mile track .•.•• In the Southern '500' at Darlington, South
Carolina, it was Junior Johnson, driving a 1962 Pontiac .•... PRA members welcomed
two new additions to its ever growing family last week -- First, Sandi (Mrs. Tom)
Harrell presented her husband with their fifth son; while Ann (Mrs .. Ed) Kauf Jr .. wel-
comed her first heir and son on Saturday afternoon., September 1 -- Mothers and
Sons are doing well! I!! 1 To those fans who were lucky enough to win a free bag of
groceries in last week's Giant Grocery Giveaway and then donated it to Mrs. ·Jim
Gilmore and her five children, PRA extends its sincerest and warmest thanx --
our thanx, also, to those of you who so generously contributed money -- each and
every donation will help the Gilmore family through one of the most difficult and
trying situations they've ever had to face ..•.. If YOU haven't seen the $199 Claiming
Stocks race through the intersection of Ascot Park's Figure 8 course, you've miss-
ed one of the most spine -tingling, thrilling, breath-taking, spectacular (there just
aren't enough adjectives) auto racing programs, now being held in Southern Califor-
nia! ! ! ! ! Beginning tomorrow, Sunday, September 9, the $199 Claimers will be mak-
ing a weekly appearance at Ascot Park., starting at 2:30 P. M •••..• By popular demand,
Saugus Stadium will once again be the · scene for a gigantic Destruction Derby -- next
Saturday evening, September 15 -- in conjunction with PRA's regularly scheduled 10-
event stock car racing program -- for further information, contact Bill Patterson in
the Pits tonight, or in the Press Box AND, on Saturday night, September 22, the
third and final Womens Stock Car Race has been programmed -- Entry Blanks are
av.ailable at the Main Ticket Office for those of you interested in racing for the first
time; all those who competed in the first or second Womens Race should've received
your entry in the mail.
