Tonight's Game: Hart Indians us. Thousand Oaks Lancers
Welcome to the home opener for the two-time defending CIF S.S. Division III Champions, the Hart Indians. Tonight's game matches Hart against long time preseason rival, Thousand Oaks High School. The Indians are coming off a season opening victory against the Monroe Vikings, 36-6. The Lancers lost a close game to Crescenta Valley, 24-20.
In week #1, Senior QB-Kyle Matter led the Hart offense, throwing for 237 yards and 3 touchdowns. WR-Evan Allen had 6 catches and a touchdown, while WR-Chris Steck hauled in 2 touchdowns on 4 receptions. RB-Tim Gregory had 98 total offense yards and 2 touchdowns. Coach Rick Herrington's defense allowed only 180 yards to Monroe. LB's-Josh Christensen and Travis Hetman led the team in tackles with 9 and 7 respectively. Defensive linemen; Evan Allen, Peter Dubsky, and Chris Frome each had one QB sack.
The Thousand Oaks Lancers are coached by first year Head Coach Mike Sanders. The Lancer offense is led by Junior QB-Ben Olson, who threw for 265 yards against Crescenta Valley. RB-Tony Ferrara rushed for 85 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Thousand Oaks offense gained 400 yards total offense in its season opener. WR-Dave Anderson pulled down 9 catches for 95 yards. The Lancer defense is led by DL-Matt Marsh, LB's-Chris Boggiano and Derrick Cloud, and DB-Kevin Rex.
The Hart vs. Thousand Oaks series dates back to the mid-60's. The Lancers won the first six meetings. In the 90's, Hart has been victorious 7 out of the last 8 meetings. Thousand Oaks leads the series 8 to 7.
The Hart Indians enter the game ranked #1 in the CIF S.S. Division III poll and #1 in the Greater San Fernando Valley. Hart is also ranked #2 in Southern California and #3 in the state.
Next week, the Indians travel to Westlake, the defending CIF S.S. Division IV champions. This matchup of CIF champions will be broadcasted live on Fox Sports West 2 on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Hart's next home game will be on Thursday Sept. 21 against the Palmdale Falcons. That night will also be Hart's 2000 Homecoming.
