Saugus Oil Field:
Proposed Location of Bonelli No. 2 Oil Well

The line running up the middle from south to north is Bouquet Canyon Road; much of this area would become the Emblem tract.

One item of note is the name "Jeffries" at lower right, just above the words, "Bermite Powder Company." This was an oil claim staked by ex-prizefighter Jim Jeffries, who in about 1917 became the first (known) person to manufacture explosives (actually gunpowder) at what would later become the Bermite property. There is evidence — or rather, a lack of production records — to indictate that his efforts at oil exploration in the area weren't fruitful.
