la rg e s t school in th e group, has eig h t te a c h e rs . I t i s lo
cated nine m iles n o rth of San Fernando on the main lin e of
th e Southern P a c ific R ailro ad . Saugus has two te a c h e rs and
i s but two m iles n o rth of Newhall. I t i s also on th e main
lin e of th e Southern P a c ific R ailroad and i s a ju n ctio n
fo r th e Southern P a c ific Line to Ventura extends out from
h e re . C astaic Union, w ith th re e te a c h e rs, is te n m iles n o rth
o f Newhall on th e Ridge Route where a new highway under con
s tru c tio n extends from the p resen t one to p o in ts n o rth . New
Era is lo d ated in Boquet Canyon, six and a h a lf m iles n o rth
e a st of Newhall. Honby School is also six and a h a lf m iles
n o rth east of Newhall on the Mint Canyon highway. F elto n is
fiv e m iles west of Newhall in Pico Canyon in th e Standard
O il Company te r r ito r y . The l a s t th ree schools have but one
te a c h e r each.

th ese elem entary d is tr ic ts go by bus to th e San Fernando
High School, which is under th e Los Angeles C ity School Sys
tem . P u p ils liv in g in C astaic Union, Honby, and New Era
D is tr ic ts are req u ired to leave th e ir homes by six t h i r t y
in the morning and those liv in g in Saugus and Newhall D is
t r i c t s a t seven by bus fo r th e San Fernando High School. This
