Short punk hair styles and anything metal-
lic were the styles for 1982. This includes
gold leaf jewelry and headbands as worn
by freshman Dawn Kapp.
You've Got
The Look
Fashion consciousness reached it's peak at Hart in
1982. By the beginning of the year, designer jeans
were already a thing of the past and the guys and
gals were respectively turning to preppy and New
Wave fashions. Although many of the boys and most
of the girls still dressed comfortably in jeans, shirts,
sweaters, and tennis shoes, the fashion conscious
couldn't help but stand out with their new, different,
and sometimes shocking outfits.
The guys began to dress up . . . jeans, tennies, and t-
shirts were seen less frequently as slacks, topsiders,
ties and Members Only jackets set the new pace.
The trend for classy dressing was set by senior Victor·
Figalan who was recognized on Victor Figalan Day
where all guys on campus were encouraged to wear
a tie to school in honor of Victor and his expert taste
in school attire.
As the guys dressed up, the girls dressed out . . . way
out. New Wave music brought a whole new wave of
fashion to Hart. Gone were traditional clothing and
.)asic colors as new styles and flashy colors were
seen everywhere. Suddenly everything turned me-
tallic . . . not just jewelery, but headbands, hand-
bags, and slippers too! The first appearances of col-
ored stockings, mini-skirts, knickers and extra-long
sweatshirts turned many heads at Hart, but eventual-
ly were accepted by students as suitable school at-
tire. The new fashions were here, but no one knows
how long they would stay.
For those who dare to be different Curtis
Folkman proudly displays his tail.
Nobody comes to school without a pair of
Van's tennis shoes.
