Everybody's
Working For The
Weekend
As we all know, we high school students cannot live
by school alone. We thrive on extra-curricular activi-
ties to add to our lives. For most of us, this extra
activity took the form of a job. Staffing nearly every
fast food franchise on Lyons A venue and entertain-
ment centers such as the Mann 6 Theatres and Mag-
ic Mountain, Hart students were observed laboring
countless hours, earning as much money as possible.
Incentive for such fervent exertion came from each
approaching weekend. Everybody's working for the
weekend!
Except for money stashed away by frugal college-
bound seniors, nearly every hard earned dollar was
spent on the weekend. The local theatre, record
store and clothing store were responsible for snatch-
ing up most of our funds.
Hit movies such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Superman
II, Stripes, and Arthur, were seen over and over by
Hart's student body. Record after record was re-
leased, and record after record was purchased.
While some students enjoyed the pop-beat of teen
favorites such as Journey, Pat Benatar, and the Go-
Go's; other students preferred the sophisticated and
worldly-wise music of greats such as Bruce SP'4ng-
steen and Jackson Browne.
Music meant more than merely records and tapes-it
meant concerts! 1982 was the year that the Rolling
Stones, Pat Benatar, and Journey came to town. No
doubt, Hart students were there to make them feel
welcome.
To other students, the extra-curricular spice came
from everything Linder the sun - from sports, to horse
ranching, to watching the daily soap operas.
Busy at school, work, or play, Hart students were
always on the go in '82. It was a time to get a taste
of life by holding jobs and having the freedoms that
come from having extra money: Only to learn one
thing . . . lite had just begun. ·
