show support for us not only makes us feel good as an organization, but I think it shows the community that the
man that ran the club all those years has faith in the new staff, and that is priceless. Jim worked at the club for
29 years, so he brings 29 years worth of supporters and donors with him. Jim has made plenty of introductions
that might not have been made without him. He also lends a vault of knowledge to staff. He is someone any staff
member might reach out to for advice or information.
Biography: Since 1985 Jim Ventress has been an influential leader and volunteer in Santa Clarita. While most
know him as CEO of the Boys & Girls Club, where he worked for 29 years building two full service facilities
and serving tens of thousands of youth, many do not realize the layers of volunteer service he has accomplished
on top of that responsibility. Jim has been a speaker at numerous events on leadership, responsibility, and edu-
cation. Jim has volunteered with Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles, United Way, is a founding member of the
Anti-Gang Task Force, a board member for SCV Domestic Violence Center, and represented Santa Clarita as a
board member for the L.A. Alliance for Boys & Girls Clubs. Since his retirement in 2014, Jim continues to stay
involved with the Boys & Girls Club as a volunteer and ambassador. Whether it is setting up the stage at Festi-
val of Trees, inviting people to the club, sanding wood blocks with children for Pinewood Derby, or soliciting
auction items, Jim is staying busy in his retirement. Jim continues to give of himself to the club and the kids. He
is always there for staff to help with a problem or to give advice.

Organizational Impact: Steve conceived of the “Mayo Monday” Campaign to help Henry Mayo in 2012. The
fundraiser ran from June of 2012 to March of 2014. During that time, Steve’s Jersey Mike’s Santa Clarita stores
donated 100% of their profits on the first Monday of every month. Each month, a different service area of this
hospital was designated to receive that month’s donation. During this time, Jersey Mike’s donated more than
$12,000 to Cardiac Care, the NICU, the ICU, Laboratory Services, the Breast Center, the Women’s Unit, Physi-
cal Therapy, Education and Radiology. After the “Mayo Monday Campaign” ended, Steve started the “Discount
Sub Club Card” Campaign where more than $10,000 was raised for the hospital over a two-year period. In
2016, along with the Hart School District and the WiSH Foundation, Steve started a fundraiser to help support
the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and Hart School District’s combined effort to help educate and thus protect
our student athletes by providing athletic trainers at the schools. His Jersey Mike’s “Sub Club Card” sales raised
more than $3,000 for this program alone. These donations have had a significant impact on Henry Mayo’s ability
improve the quality of healthcare we provide our community, both within individual departments and as a whole.
