ewhall Elemel\t ry School Facilitie for Seventh Grad
s in Sept mber of 1960
After several visits with Mr. Bob King, Supe:t"intendent, Newhall Element ry
District, and inspection o£ the rooms and 9ther la~,ilitie which would be
available to us in September, the following ti,tntative rrangement for the
use of these facilities !or our seventh grad class are u~g· sted.
CLASSROOMS, GROUNDS AND OTHER BUilDING FACILITIES: 'ten cla a-
rooms, numbe;rs 17 through 26 would be availab~e for our full-time use. The
auditorium will be available for our music activities, including General Mu ic,
Chorus, and Band on an as-need d basi • We will submit a sch. ·dule of pre;.
j ecte~ time of.. u e of the auditorium and work o~ with Mr. King a coordination
of it use by th Elementary Scho0L Two s ts cif restrooms, boya' and iirl 1 ,
are located in the elas sroom area and will be available primarily for our use.
There ie one lounge available for women m~mbers of our eta!f. The men 'a
lounge in this classroom area can be made to serve as an office, with the toilet
.facility in that lounge being available to men staff members. A large portion
of the grounds will b available !or our Physical Education program and also
for the noon hour, Very little, if any, of this area will be used at. any time during
the day by the Elementary School youngsters. There is located withln this area
a building that can serve as a field house for storage of our Physical Education
equipment and aleo as an office area !or the P. E. inetructor So
EQUIPMENT AND FURNITURE: The student desks in nine of the ten class-
rooms can be left there and should in most cases be satj.sfactory. Desks in some
o! the rooms now eerving fourth graders may have to be adjusted for the larger
seventh grade youngsters. It would seem advisable that ad~u tment be ma.de to
maximum height during the summer, on the assumption. that this adjustment would
be nec:essary~ in most cases. The teachere decks and chairs would also remain
I
in these room·e. Any filing cabinets to be used by the seventh grade teachers in
addition to the etorage apace which is in the rooms themselves would. probably have
to be transferred from the present high school campus to the s~ room.El on the
elementary campus. Room 26, which will serve as the Art room but will also
have to accommodate other classes during other periods of the day, now has
email work tables with a maximum capacity of probly fifteen youngsterso It is
suggested that il any of the old c~ete.ria tables from the High S~hool are avail-
able possibly four of these could be put into Room Z6 and would become then
adequate eating for both the Art cla. se and other classes with the size of
approximately 25 students. One or two additional 1tor ge cabinets may be
located in Room 26 to accommodate th necessary materials for the Art claasea.
A desk, chair, and filing cabinets will hav to be lee ated in the men• loung ,
which ia to be converted to a temporary office. It is recommended that sep-
arate tel phon line be installed to the office space rather than attempting to run
an exteneiQll through the Elementary Schoo ewit_chboard. The requ st for this
line should be in· i ted so a to b ready by Septemb r.
