As your new Chief of Police, with 32
years on the force, and a long-time
resident of the Santa Clarita Valley, I
am committed to serving others and keeping our
community safe. You may have noticed, since I
took command in April, things have been a little
different. Following the mandate set forth by the
City, and working closely with Santa Clarita Valley
Sheriff's Station personnel, we are taking a firm,
proactive stance on crime.
There are many issues we are facing head on, but the
three that have risen to the top are heroin/opiate
use, overall crime reduction and traffic safety.
This spring saw a string of dangerous overdoses in
our City, leading to several hospitalizations and one
death. Using department resources and teaming
up with our valuable local and regional partners,
we made a push to get the drugs off our City streets
and put the drug dealers in jail. Our deputies are
also now trained to administer Narcan®, a lifesaving
drug that immediately reverses effects of an opioid
overdose. By working with the county, Henry Mayo
Newhall Hospital, local treatment facilities and
other community resources, we are leading the fight
against heroin in Santa Clarita.
Our Crime Prevention Unit is back on the streets,
utilizing strategies to reduce crime in our City. One
of those tactics is mission specific patrols in areas of
recent criminal activity, which have proven effective,
and we've even caught criminals in the act.
We now have even more resources devoted to
stopping reckless drivers. There are six motor
deputies on our streets citing drivers who make the
choice to speed, drive distracted or not follow the
rules of the road.
The loss of even one life to drugs or traffic
collisions is one too many in the eyes of your
protectors. I would like to thank the community
for its support. Our sheriff's deputies are out there
every day working hard to keep you safe. I am proud
of what we have accomplished in the last seven
months and I look forward to working together to
cut crime even further in Santa Clarita.
