TO ALL MEMBER SOCIETIES:
Now that the Bicentennial stress on Nationa.L History is drawing
to a close, may we suggest the education op local history as the
di~ection for 1977?
We would ask that, as a beginning, you make two lists for our
committee and for your own use as well.
One iist would be of your own members_ who would be wi.Lling to
volunteer to give talks on definite phases of your local history,
primarily to school classes in your community.
The other list would be of books on the history of your area:
books (and pamphlets) published by your society, and/or books in
your own or public library that you would recommend for use in the
teaching of your local history.
These lists could t~1en be made available to teachers through the
Stockton office or directly from your society. Lists of this kind
would be of great value to researchers and could be added to, from
time to time.
We especially suggest that the existence of these lists be
publicised and all schools be notified oft heir location. Better
still, see that your local schools receive copies. We are particu-
larly interested in seeing that all locally published material is
included in these listings o
PLEASE SEND COPIES OF BOTH LISTS TO THE EDUCATION CHAIRMAN BY
MARCH 1, so that they may be compiled to be presented at the March 26
meeting of the Board of Directors in Stockton. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Ruth Marra
