Preface
"For where there ar e two or three gathered in my name, I am there
with you." /\1a tthew 18:20
How true this uerse of scripture is! How truly this Church has been
blessed! For ouer 100 years, on the same site, the family of God
known as the First Presbyterian Church of Newhall has been
worshiping, praising the Lord and receiuing His loue.
It is not uery often in the life of a congregation that a
celebration like this, our Centennial, takes place. It is eHciting to look
back and realize that the faith of the 16 founding members along with
a missionary pastor was the start of it all. In the years since the
Church was organized there haue been hundreds who haue professed
their faith in Jesus Christ. We can be proud of our Reformation roots
in Scotland and of the accomplishments of the Presbyterian Church
here in America. Presbyterianism wos so preualent in America that
some British called the American Reuolution the "Presbyterian
Reuolt"." At least 14 signers of the Declaration of Independence
(including clergyman John Witherspoon) were Presbyterians. That
was the foundation upon which this Church was started and upon
which we continue to build today.
In the early years this Church serued as the only Protestant
Church in the area - seruing eueryone in the ualley. It was truly a
community church. It's Fellowship Hall was open for the community
to use for numerous and uarious actiuities. It was a busy place. It
was used by the local Garden Club, for Masonic actiuities and euen a
meeting place for the "Glass Blowers Union" from Thatcher Glass plus
many, many other groups.
The people here at the First Presbyterian Church of Newhall are
what makes this congregation so unique. There is a warmth, a caring
and a loue within our congregation that makes it special. We really
care about each other! More than once, newcomers haue eHpressed a
