In this world people should
learn the art of communication.
This was the aim of the teachers
at Saugus High. They offered a
wide
of classes, including American
Scene, Journalism, Lit. I - Comp I,
Lit. II - Comp. II, Reading Lab and
Comp. Lab.
As with all new schools, Sau-
gus had its problems. Mr. Rich-
ard Artzer, English / Foreign
Language Area Chairman, rela-
ted some of the problems. The
school had more students than
textbooks. The building ,
designed to be an open class-
room, allowed interaction
between all classes, creating
disturbances and problems for the
staff.
The teachers were short of help
and in need of aides, but, unfor-
tunately, the district was short of
funds. Possibly in the future help
may be acquired , but most likely
the teachers will have to get
along without the assistance.
Mr. Artzer was quite pleased
with the school, and not at all
sorry he left Hart High. The only
thing he missed was his old jour-
nalism classes.
This past year the school par-
ticipated in a workshop program
involving students and parents.
The Foreign Language program
was only able to offer French I,
II, and III, and Spanish I, II, and
III. Mr. Artzer hopes that in the
future other languages can be
incorporated into the program.
Mr. Richard Artzer worked
hard to make Saugus High's Eng-
lish and Foreign Language areas
the best in the district. He had
one additional comment, '' As
students ask for and receive more
freedom, they should remember
that freedom, without responsi-
bility, is no freedom at all."
