Music and media in the 21st century are definitely different than the music scene of IO years ago. From Nirvana
and the Smashing Pumpkins, to Britney Spears and Linkin Park, the scene has shifted dramatically. But with the music
industry as indecisive as it is, this change could be not for long. As punk becomes more and more the "next
trend" and groups like the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync grow older, the trend seems to be turning yet again. Two
years ago, bands like Linkin Park, Sum 41, Alien Ant Farm, and Jimmy Eat World recieved little to no airplay. But
today, they are quickly moving up the charts and frequenting the MlV airwaves. Some say this is just another trend,
but others think these bands may have more longevity. Who would have thought that N'Sync and the Backstreet
Boys. would have lasted as long as they did? The scene for current music can now be found anywhere. Instead
of one place, like Seattle, topping the map for music, now any city is a potential hot spot for what could set
the trend. Music has become too varied itself, becoming too diverse to classify. One thing is certain: the music
scene is never stable!
