Clean-Up Day at Camulos Cemetery
Rancho Camulos

September 29, 2007 — Volunteers spruce up the historic Camulos Cemetery, located on private property north of Highway 126 on the 1,800-acre Camulos Ranch, which is an active agribusiness (Camulos Ranch LLC).

This was the original burial site of Ygnacio del Valle (1808-1880), onetime owner of 48,000 acres of the Santa Clarita Valley, stretching from Camulos and Piru on the west to the western edge of Canyon Country on the east. In 1905 Ygnacio's widow Ysabel is said to have had his body exhumed from his crypt and moved to Calvary Cemetery in Los Angeles, where Ysabel was ultimately laid to rest in the same coffin.

Today (2019) the cemetery is surrounded by orchards in fields leased by tenant farmers; thus the cemetery is off-limits to the public.

4x6-inch photographic prints.
