When chosen to hang out with a senior, sophomore Marshall Marmolejo didn't think twice
about saying yes. Senior Cristian Sanchez agreed to go along too as long as his sophomore
companion was a "cool guy." When told what they would be doing, painting pottery, Marshall
seemed a bit hesitant but willing and Cristian was completely open with the idea. When
Marshall arrived first, he noticed that there must be a "girly section" and quickly decided against
anything there, but went for a "simple" mug instead. Later when Cristian arrived, he immediately
chose a surfboard, but out of the corner of his eye, spotted a sunflower in Marshall's so called
"girly section." Once Marshall and Cristian chose their paint, they sat down to work diligently
while having a casual conversation ranging from music to siblings.
During their conversation Cristian and Marshall discussed issues concerning them such as school
and sports. Marshall says that he likes "high school a lot more" than Arroyo Seco, although there
are still "some immature people" here. Cristian said that he totally "loved middle school and
misses it because it was more fun." He also said that he had dreams of becoming a writer
or a politician while attending Humboldt University. He may also go to Santa Monica after he
graduates from Valencia. The conversation then quickly turned to sports. Cristian told Marshall
that he enjoyed soccer and basketball. Marshall replied that he liked basketball himself, and
he used to take karate, but eventually he didn't have time for school and karate, so he gave
it up so he could achieve his academic success. Cristian also noted that he likes to play hacky
sack, which he started at Valencia with his friends, Tim and Dave. Marshall has no hacky sack
experience and said that it is just the new "cool" thing to do. After that, the two of them discussed
Linkin Park, musical instruments, sisters, and television.

After they finished painting and left their pottery for the kiln, they said their goodbyes. Marshall
simply waited for his ride as Cristian started up his car.
