3 "V" shape. is that correct?
4 A Thecanyonwas a typical "V" canyon. Almost all canyons .
5 have that shape.
6 Q. So at the extreme level you went downto solid rock, is
7 that correct?
8 A Yes sir.

11 A Just about-- well, rather nearer the little stream was
12 running there in that canyon, u.suall7 very little in the summer
13 time but occasional floods come downand it did about touchh bed
14 rock at the lowestd point of the rock. The sides runup ten or
15 twelve feet.
16 Q, Of course, you madeyourborings into the bed rock to determine
17 what that was?
18 .! Yes sir.
19 Q. WAs that a shale?
20 A No sir, schist. I 1flUlt to say that I haveread in the
21 papers statements that shale showed in the concrete. That could
22 not be because there is no shale in the country.

24 A No ab'. The real shale is in formationsfive or six
25 miles from there.
26 Q By a schist, what do you mean1,J' that?
27 A A. hardigneous mica schist.
That comes in layers?
A. Yes the wordschist meanssolid. It is the German for solid.

31 How wide was that piece that stood up?
A The piece that remians there is about seventy-fivefeet.
