St. Francis Dam: Castaic Creek
St. Francis Dam Disaster

[Full View][Closeup]

Photo No. 11 from The Newhall Land and Farming Co.'s March 24, 1928 report on the March 12-13 St. Francis Dam Disaster.

A quarter-mile west of Castiac Junction, the Southern Pacific railroad tracks have been turned upside-down. According to the text, the photo is taken "from the south side of the track looking northeast, and at its right-hand side you will notice that the track is set right side up. In the center is where the actual turn was made and in the left-hand you will see the ties on top of the rails. Thus the overturned tracks continued for a matter of about a quarter to a half mile."

Original caption by Almer M. Newhall reads as follows:

No. 11 S.P. tracks turned upside down 1/4 mile West of Castaic.
