Michele Ybarra McKinley is a Piru native and a longtime local historian. She is a descendant of Juan and Francisca Tapia Dominguez of Dominguez Canyon. Her passion for Piru history results from listening to family stories told by her mother and grandmothers.

As of 2023, Michele is the creator and moderator of the "Growing Up in Piru" and "Piru CA - What's Happening Now" Facebook pages and an advocate for honoring military veterans. She has compiled an extensive collection of vintage photos of the Piru area.
