November 8, 1958 — With 80 yards passing (6 of 11) and another 33 yards rushing, QB Joe Kapp (Hart High Class of 1955) leads the Cal Bears to a 20-17 win over UCLA at home, putting Cal (then 4-1) on a Rose Bowl trajectory.

Kapp did lead the No. 16 Bears to the Pacific Coast Conference championship. They lost the 1959 Rose Bowl game to No. 2 Iowa, 38-12.

Professionally, Kapp took the Lions of British Columbia to the Grey Cup in 1963 (loss) and 1964 (win). In 1970 with the Minnesota Vikings, he became the first Mexican-American to quarterback in the Super Bowl (loss).

As of 2020, he is still the only person ever to quarterback in all three title contests.
